Lucy in the sky with Diamonds - O mistério por detrás do título

Quando a música Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds é mencionada, é natural que a liguemos de imediato às drogas, mais precisamente ao LSD.

De facto, a maioria das pessoas que conhecem a música, só a reconhecem como '' a música que fala secretamente sobre 'mandar ácidos'''.

E até o próprio título aparenta o mesmo: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Ao ouvirmos o tema, encontramos na letra versos deste género:

''Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain/Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies/Everyone smiles as you drift pas the flowers/That grow so incredibly high''

Visto assim, esta música retrata claramente uma 'acid trip', mas não é bem assim!

Por mais estranho que pareça, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds é realmente sobre uma rapariga chamada Lucy, no céu, com diamantes. O filho de John Lennon, Julian, fez um desenho da sua amiga Lucy O'Donnell, rodeada de diamantes no céu. Jonh gostou tanto, que resolveu escrever uma música com este nome.

Os Beatles já admitiram várias vezes em público, terem utilizado drogas, nomeadamente LSD,para obter inspiração para as músicas. Mas esta em particular, não é uma metáfora para a tal droga. John Lennon disse que nunca tinha imaginado que as iniciais das palavras fossem gerar tanta controvérsia.

After all, it's coded right there in the title: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

And then you get lyrics like this:

Clearly it's alluding to an acid trip, but not exactly.

Shockingly, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , is about a girl called Lucy, in the sky, with diamonds. John Lennon's son Julian drew a picture of his friend Lucy surrounded by diamonds in the sky, and John liked it enough to name a song after it.

The Beatles freely admit using drugs as inspiration for songs, and the odds are, LSD was one of them. But as for this particular song being a metaphor for the drug itself?No.

John Lennon said that it was purely unconscious that it came out to be LSD.
